a Nordic Saturday at SSB . . .

At SSB, the learning keeps going even on the weekend.  There is always something “Nordic” going on . . . and this beautiful Belgian Saturday was no exception.

It started with Norwegian soccer.  Sponsored by the Norwegian Church, all adults are welcome to play between 9.45 – 11.00 on our artificial grass field.  There are always lots of children who follow along and play on the playground during this time as well.

Then, the Waterloo Lions arrived.  In the Sports Hall, more than 30 SSB students, ages 10 – 19, train every Saturday in three groups to compete in the Nordic sport of innebandy.   This club has been very succesful in the past few years – earning many Belgian titles.

Inside the main building, the Finnish Home Language school (Suomi-Koulu) began their classes today at 10.00.  They meet every other Saturday at SSB.  With more than 40 students, ages 2 – 16, it is a strong program.  This year, they will also offer beginner’s Finnish for adults.

And, on the main field in front of the Castle, the Danish Scouts gathered for their kick-off meeting.  Nearly 50 strong, this group of multi-aged scouts learned about outdoor life, building tents, and more.  They also walked to our wooded area to explore the Belgian forest.

We are so proud of our Nordic community.  It was a great day at SSB!
